Paul wanted to promote good order. He desired that Christians made marital choices for appropriate reasons. Whether they marry or not, his intent was for the believer to do so for the right reason: undivided devotion to the Lord.

In other words, do whatever will help you serve the Lord best with as few distractions as possible because the devil will attempt to distract you by whatever means he finds necessary. Marriage takes time and effort, so if you are not prayerful, marriage can become a distraction.
